Coming back to 3D modelling after focusing on programming for a while, I wanted to learn the basics of Blender. I took inspiration from my old Unity project “Cat Witch”; I always envisioned the resident (..s, including the cat) of the humble attic to be obsessed with books and potions, yet a bit absent minded, not caring to worry about their surroundings.

The old, wooden structures of a bed frame, barely holding up; a series of floating candles and books to use as an improvised staircase; potions haphazardly placed in bookshelves; the bed frame itself being built by hand to give it ample room for a cat bed at its foot; these details aim to tell of who this witch is through pure visuals.

I hope to learn more of Blender’s tools and how to work with it as efficiently as possible as I continue the development of my games and renders.

Holiday Greetings

Genres:

Winter, Christmas, Romance

Made with:

Unreal Engine 5, Quixel Megascans

This Christmas themed scene depicts two characters, orginally from the game 'Paragon' (a game close to my heart), sharing a tender moment by a campfire, surrounded by a snowy forest. Old school Paragon players may also recognize a third character in the background.

A good reason for utilising the free Epic Game assets from Paragon is that they are not only AAA quality assets with animations, various alternative meshes and customisable materials, but they are also free to use with Unreal Engine.

Even if I do not end up using the assets themselves in my own future projects, they work as fantastic documentation for how AAA character assets are created and function on a fundamental level.

With that in mind, it was still necessary for me to create control rigs for each character I intended to use for posing. The process itself is not difficult, though when transferring the same rig to a new character, the face rig will most often need to recreated and the body rig will need its controllers readjusted.

Maya 3D Models

Genres:

Furniture, Hard surface, Magic

Made with:

Maya, Substance Painter, Unity

During my team and I's 3D asset project "The Cat Witch", I wanted the overall look and feel to the environment to present a traditionally old and grimey idea of witches and abondoned attics. This cauldron would have a kind of magical green gas oozing out of it, from which a couple of reanimated tentacles would spawn. The inside of the cauldron was not too important in that case, but the effect would rathger be enhanced with some added colour.

The art direction for The Cat Witch that I argued for involved more surreal and wobbly shapes for the static environment. For the bookshelves, I rigged the model in Maya to bend it in different ways.

These bookshelves would act as platforms, but at one point I did consider giving them a slightly grim addition with blood and having them animate slightly, as if breathing and out.

The overall environment was created by me, as well as the cauldron and bookshelves. I also animated the tentacles coming out of the cauldron as we wanted them to feel "alive", yet they still had to work as platforms for the player to walk across, so the challange was making a noticeable and realistic movement, but subtle enough not to disrupt the player.

The wobbly and uneven shapes of the bookshelves from before are also relfected with the walls and parts of the floor, which are all modular.

Vector Illustrations

Genres:

Recycling, Cartoons, Logos, Posters

Made with:

Adobe Illustrator

During Media and Communication, I was part of a youth business that provided graphic design services. These recycling icons were created to be more noticable and distinguishable alternatives to the ones in our school at the time.

Going through a few different iterations, the prototype icon for food waste turned out too gross and unappealing, making me reconsider the style.

Our graphic design youth business, Fønix Design, had a moment of restructure and team members leaving. While the previous logo (created by a previous member) depicted a low poly red and orange phoenix, the redesign (created by me) was more detailed and used shades of blue instead, implying the phoenix returning stronger than its previous incarnation. Change may be followed by pain and anxiety, but it will help us grow stronger.

These are a few designs for either logos, profile icons or other made during my highschool years. Chronologically, starting from the left, I tended to overdesign my illustrations, but over the years I have found a fondness for simplicity and clarity over detail.

These poster illustrations were meant as advertisements for a couple of school assignments.

My main objective with both were simplicity and having pleasant-to-look-at styles that would stand out from the often overdesigned band posters one would see in the city.

Wireframe Concepts

Genres:

User Interface, Online Advertisements

Made with:

Adobe Illustrator

These are some wireframe user interface concepts for Truth Detectives, a game by ZBStudios.

I was given the opportunity to offer some design concepts for the Berlin based game studio through one of my teachers at Noroff University College.

Even from my days in high school, I have enjoyed designing visuals and layouts for user interfaces. This is a concept made for a norwegian website for information on education made for a graphic design assignment.
